Man Facing DUI and Other Charges after Incident at Lake Lanier

Police in Georgia recently arrested a man after receiving a call about an incident at Lake Lanier. The accused is facing DUI and various other charges. As the event involved a minor, the potential penalties in this case are quite severe.

It was recently reported that on Wednesday, July 4, a 30-year-old man was swimming underwater when he came up to a 14-year-old girl and allegedly bit her. Police say this individual was not related to the victim or has any connection to her or her family. Witnesses are said to have called the police.

The accused was promptly transported to Hall County Jail. Charges against him include public drunkenness, batter and second-degree child cruelty — among others. Bond was set at nearly $6,000 for two of the charges. It is unclear if bond was ever set for the remaining charges. It was also not reported if the accused has retained legal counsel.

The potential consequences if the accused is convicted on these charges may include incarceration, community service, fines, restitution and others. The simple truth of the matter is DUI and assaulting a minor are both offenses the state of Georgia takes seriously, and prosecuting attorneys are likely to throw the book at the accused seeking maximum punishment. Thankfully, this individual has the right to defend himself with the assistance of a criminal defense attorney of his choice. While this case may not prove an easy one to fight, the accused and his legal counsel can discuss and pursue the best defense strategy for the situation.
