A Georgia woman is facing a number of criminal charges following a recent accident on Highway 316. Police do believe that impairment was a contributing factor. When charged with a DUI, the consequences can be quite severe if one is convicted. Thankfully, this individual does have the right to defend herself with the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney.
On Thursday, Jan. 25, police officers received several phone calls about a reckless driver and single-vehicle accident. When police responded to the area, they found an SUV overturned in a ditch near Sugarloaf Parkway. The driver — a 24-year-old female — was trapped inside. Thankfully, police were able to free her and send her to the hospital for the treatment of her injuries.
This young woman is accused of weaving in and out of traffic, cutting people off and speeding. Authorities claim that she smelled of alcohol, though they did not report the results of any sobriety tests. While in the care of the hospital, she has been officially charged with DUI, reckless driving and failure to remain in her lane of traffic. It is unclear if she is still being treated at the medical facility, if she has been taken into police custody or if she has been released pending her criminal hearing.
When it comes to DUI charges in Georgia, there are several ways that these cases can turn out. It may be possible to seek a dismissal of charges; it may be possible to seek a reduction in charges; and, finally, it may be possible to seek alternative sentencing. With the assistance of legal counsel, the accused in this case can make an informed decision regarding the best way to handle the situation.
