Forsyth Man Facing DUI Charges

A Forsyth man was recently arrested after striking a police officer with his car. The accused is charged with DUI. This is not the first time he has faced criminal charges.

According to reports, a 44-year-old male was operating his vehicle on Highway 396 in North Forsyth in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 6, when he hit a trooper who was out directing traffic. The victim — a 35-year-old male — suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for care. His current condition is unknown.

The accused was promptly arrested and transported to a holding facility. Authorities discovered that this individual has a long checkered past with the law. He had previously been charged and convicted on DUI and drug charges. For his previous DUI charge, he spent one day in jail. For his drug charges, he was given five years’ probation, ordered to provide community service, told to submit to random drug testing and required to complete a drug dealer re-education class.

While it is this current charge for which prosecuting attorneys will be pursuing a conviction, the accused’s criminal record will be taken into consideration when it comes to determining guilt and sentencing. This event has already cost the accused his job with the Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department. It could cost him a whole lot more if he is convicted. Penalties for felony DUI charges include imprisonment and hefty fines — among others. While fighting the charges in this case will not prove an easy feat, with the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney, this individual can do all that is necessary to fight for the best outcome possible under the circumstances.
