Georgia Woman Facing Felony Charges after DUI-Related Wreck

On the evening of May 28, a Georgia woman crashed her car and injured herself and her young son. Police believe impairment contributed to the accident. As such, she is facing various felony charges.

According to reports, while heading southbound on Helen Highway, the 35-year-old drove her car off the right side of the road and then overcorrected. This caused her vehicle to pass through the northbound lanes and go off the other side of the road and down an embankment. Her vehicle finally came to a stop after it hit a tree.

Police say that a 6-year-old boy was unrestrained in the back seek when the crash occurred. He suffered critical injuries and was flown to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. As of the latest report, he was listed in stable condition.

The driver also suffered injuries as she, too, was unrestrained. She was transported to an area hospital for care. It is unknown if she is still in the hospital or if she has been released and taken into police custody.

The charges filed against this woman include DUI, child endangerment, failure to maintain lane, restraint violations and serious injury by automobile. A few of these are felony level charges, and all of them combined can have significant consequences if the accused is ultimately convicted in a Georgia criminal court. As this woman stands to lose quite a bit, including possibly her parental rights, she could certainly benefit from having an experienced criminal defense attorney at her side. With the proper assistance, she can take the steps necessary to achieve the best outcome possible.
