Georgia Man Faces Felony Murder Charge in Wife’s Death

After being in and out of the house all day, a 12-year-old Georgia boy came in for the night at about 9 p.m. At around midnight, he realized that he had not seen his mother and called for her, but got no answer. What he found when he went into her bedroom led to several charges against his stepfather, including felony murder.

The boy found his mother had been shot and called for help. Emergency medical personnel attempted to revive the woman, but it was too late. Her death began a search for the boy’s stepfather. The boy had seen the man leave the house about the time he was coming back in for the night. Investigators believe that this establishes that boy’s mother was more than likely shot sometime before 9 p.m.

Reports indicate that the couple living in the home lived together for several years before recently getting married. Police reportedly visited the home on at least one prior occasion on an alleged domestic violence call. Police believed that the man was on his way to his mother’s home in New York. A reward was offered for any information regarding his whereabouts as the investigation continued.

When the man turned himself in to police recently, he was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault, felon in possession of a firearm and felony murder. When Georgia residents face these types of charges, the penalties they face are significant. It would be beneficial for a criminal defense team to begin reviewing the evidence that police gathered and that prosecutors intend to present in court as soon as possible in order to determine the best course of action to protect the best interests of an accused individual.
