Divorce Facts Georgia Couples May Care to Know

The dissolution of one’s marriage is a hard thing to experience. Before filing for divorce, many couples in Georgia will try anything to fix things or turn to experts for advice. Unfortunately, some of the information out there is out of date or simply inaccurate.

There are many researchers out there who study divorce, including causes and rates. Their findings may actually be somewhat surprising as there is a lot of false information floating around. For example, it is commonly believed that half of all marriages end in divorce. While, at some point, that may have been true, according to researchers from Bowling Green State University, it is not true anymore. In fact, divorce rates in the United States are believed to be at a 40-year low.

Many people also believe that younger couples or those who are middle-aged are more likely to pursue divorces. Again, there was a time that this was the case, but now gray divorces are on the rise. This means that more couples who are nearing or in their retirement years are seeking to dissolve their marriages.

Finally, numerous people dread divorce because they afraid of the uncertainty that comes with it. However, according to a study in the Journal of Women’s Health, women who divorce make great advances in their health. When all is said and done, they are able to focus on making changes in their life that benefit them for the better. So, while divorce may be a negative thing to go through, there can be positives that come out of it.

Couples in Georgia who are considering divorce can read these and a million other facts put out there by researchers. At the end of the day, they have to feel good about their decisions. They have to figure out if their marriages are worth saving or if moving forward will serve their best interests. If divorce is the answer, that is OK — sometimes it really is the best option. Those who decide that it is can turn to legal counsel for assistance in finalizing the dissolutions of their marriages.
