Georgia Mom Charged With Drunk Driving While Breastfeeding

Being arrested for any infraction can be a stressful time for Georgia citizens. However, when someone is accused of drunk driving while posing a threat to a child, those in law enforcement and the judicial system tend to take the charges much more seriously. This can be compounded when the accused also has charges in his or her history relating to child endangerment.

Recently, a 35-year-old woman was accused of allegedly being drunk and high when found in a running car. After a call from a concerned citizen, officers found the woman at around 2:30 a.m. on Barrington Drive in Roswell. At the time, she was reportedly breastfeeding her child, who is almost three years old.

Officers say that they had to wake the woman and, after speaking with her, determined that she might be under the influence of drugs or other substances. According to court records, the woman pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor reckless conduct charge in 2015. She made this plea after being arrested for child cruelty charges after she left her 9-month-old child in a hot car while she was in a store.

In these situations, most who are accused of crimes seek to ensure that their rights are protected and that they are treated fairly by authorities and the legal system during the arrest and trial processes. Those accused of similar crimes may want to seek legal representation from attorneys who have experience in criminal law and defending cases involving drunk driving and drug charges. A Georgia lawyer will be in the best position to understand local and state laws that may affect the outcome of a trial.
